Starting line-up of the eighth match day
ACH Volley Ljubljana met i-Vent Maribor for the first time only in the eighth week, as their opening-week match had been postponed to January. The encounter had been eagerly anticipated, but without their captain Donik, Maribor were unable to seriously threaten Ljubljana’s dominance in this year’s national championship. This does not mean they lacked opportunities, yet in the closing stages of the third set, i-Vent Maribor rather naively failed to convert their final two attacks, and the comfortable victory remained in Ljubljana.
Fužinar once again showed a solid performance, though it was still not enough to defeat the team from Kamnik. Calcit Volley played this time with the receiving pair Bošnjak and Valenčič.
A five-set drama unfolded in Kanal, where only 50 spectators were in attendance, as Alpacem Kanal faced Krka. After losing to Maribor the previous week, Krka managed to secure two points but also surrendered the top spot in the standings to their rivals from Ljubljana, whom they will meet in the next round on Friday, 5 December.
An even greater drama took place in Kranj, where the young Merkur Triglav side took a two-set lead and appeared headed for their second consecutive victory. However, Panvita Pomgrad had different plans, defeating Kranj for the second time this season. Regardless of the outcome, the steady progress of the Kranj team is clearly visible from week to week.
